Brief :

To design an attachable demonstration kit for a prosthetic hand for easy installation on amputees and general people. To give user an experience of actual product.

What is the purpose of demo kit?

  • To demonstrate the prosthetic arm on amputees and general people

  • Giving an experience of how actual arm would work and feel after installation

  • To help user to train and familiarise with the functions of product

  • Easy mounting on both amputated and normal lower limb. Ergonomically comfortable.

  • Should feel like its a part of body and less of an attachment

  • It should aesthetically please the user and make them feel confident while using it.

  • It will be used as a display item. It should should catch the eye of a user and provoke curiosity about the product.

  • Ease of handling and use.

USER STUDY 

  • Interviewing users for better understanding of their perspectives

  • Observing muscle movement of imputed limb and measuring its anthropometric dimensions

  • Understanding usual regular movements and gestures of limbs

  • Understanding how prosthetic socket fits on the limb

  • Analysing point of contacts of muscle with sensors at different positions and orientations

IDEATION

Developing concept based on ergonomics, aesthetics, form and various ways of installation

UNDERSTANDING GRIP GESTURES 

Various grip gestures were tried on modelling clay to understand the orientation of wrist and hand, ease of functionality, ergonomic position and form factor of the kit.

The 3D clay forms achieved after analysing grip patterns, they were further iterated to attain better and ergonomic grip for normal users.
