Shape Memory Alloy
A shape-memory alloy is a nickel-titanium alloy distinguished from other materials by its shape memory and super elastic characteristics, that can be deformed when cold but returns to its pre-deformed ("remembered") shape when heated

Tie & Dye tool from SMA
The exceptional quality of SMA to remember its original shape after heating served as an aid for tie and dye tool. The tool was made from a 2 mm Nitinol wire. When SMA wire is winded around the cloth and dipped in hot water the wire remembers its small cross sectional spiral shape and holds the grip over cloth and doesn't let the dye bleed through it.
